This mosque is a wonderful example of Kuala Lumpur’s architectural heritage. Built in the fi rst decade of the 20th century, this attractive house of worship is located on an important historical site, at the confluence of the Gombak and Klang rivers. This is where tin-mining began in the 19th century. It is considered the spot where Kuala Lumpur was born. The intricate artistry of Masjid Jamek is based on North Indian-Muslim architecture and features eye-catching red and white striped minarets, domes and archways.
