Bandar Sunway, 11 January 2011 - It was an extreme race for time at the Official Launch of the Extreme Park @ Sunway Lagoon. Teams representing various media battled it out for the grand prize of RM 11,111 at the Sunway Lagoon Extreme Park Challenge 2011: Malaysian Media Edition, held in conjunction with the launch, which was set on the centennially auspicious date of 11 January 2011 (11-01-11). Witnessing the launch and supporting the teams were 2,000 readers, listeners and viewers of the various media.
The Sunway Lagoon Extreme Park Challenge is a grueling 60 minutes time challenge where participating teams were tasked to complete 8 Extreme feats around Sunway Lagoon. The team that completed the challenge in the best time, with highest score won RM 11,111 for a charity of their choice.
According to M. Magendaran, Assistant General Manager of Sunway Lagoon, the Sunway Lagoon Extreme Park Challenge was initiated to kick start the new year by giving participants an opportunity to experience extreme sports at the Extreme Park and in turn do something nice and give back to society.
Present to officially launch the Extreme Park @ Sunway Lagoon was the Minister of Youth and Sports, Y.B. Dato' Sri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.
"Sunway Lagoon is truly, a world class attraction that showcases what Malaysia really is. Together with their ability to bring healthy activities to the youth, they have also managed to find a way to enrich them in providing opportunities for life experiences," said YB.
The launch also saw the introduction of Sunway Lagoon's First Brand Ambassador, Maznah Zolkifli. A veteran to the local TV industry, Maznah is also the Malaysian Youth Ambassador, Motivational Speaker and extreme sports enthusiast.
"I am honoured to represent Sunway Lagoon because this destination provides visitors with a starting point to explore sports. At the end of the day, the development of our society and youth depend on the kind of opportunities they are presented with. I am proud to be a part of the avenue of empowerment which Sunway Lagoon presents through Extreme Park for the countless number of youths who visits this multi-park destination each year," said Maznah.
The Extreme Park @ Sunway Lagoon is home to a wide variety of extreme attractions such as Malaysia's first and only Permanent Bungy Jump site, G-Force X, Go-Kart, Archery, Paintball, Kayaking, Flying Fox and Power Jump Bungee Trampoline, amongst others.
"With a variety of rides and attractions within the Extreme Park, Sunway Lagoon certainly makes for a one-stop destination for visitors to try new and adventurous sports which they wouldn't naturally consider," Magendaran said at the launch event.
Magendaran also went on to describe the numerical significance of the chosen date as fitting for Sunway Lagoon as a world-class destination. The numerals represented the unique characteristics that make Sunway Lagoon a world-class attraction;
#1 Tourism destination to be recognised by the International Association of Attractions and Amusement Parks (IAAPA) as the "Asia's Best Attraction" for four consecutive years.
