Rainforest World Music Festival 209 – overwhelming success despite the hurdles

The 12th editions of the Rainforest Forest World Music Festival came and go with a big bang. Over the three days, more than 20,000 festival goers attended the festival from July 10 to 12.



Minister of Urban Development and Tourism Datuk Michael Manyin anak Jawong who is also the festival’s  Patron was pleased  with the turn-out and  adding, “ we achieved our target audience of  20,000,”

Datuk Manyin, who had earlier expected the crowd turn out to be adversely affected by the economic downturn and Influenza A (H1N1), said that he would have been happy with a 20,000 turn out.


More than 5,000 festival goers turned up on the first night and a crowd of 8,569 came on second night  6,500 festival goers attended the finale where all 17 bands took to the stage to showcase their music.

The bands that performed at the festival were  Moana and the Tribe from New Zealand, Noreummachi (Korea), Zawose Family Africe (Tanzania), St Nicholas Orchestra (Poland), Poum Tchak (France), Inti Illimani (Chile), Muzsikas (Hungary), Sekaa Jaya Jenggala (Indonesia), Oudaden (Morocco), Jeff & Vida (USA), Dazkarieh (Portugal), Jouhiorkesteri (Finland), Red Chamber and Malaysian bands AkashA, Asika, Kinabalu Merdu Sound and Lan-e Tuyang.

Next year’s RWMF is on July 9 to 11, 2010.
